Hirwaun and District Community Angling Project

In 2015 MAFFA, supported by Natural Resources Wales, embarked on the Hirwaun & District Community Angling Project, the aim being to provide opportunities for groups and organisations, such as schools, scouts, disability groups, etc., as well as interested members of the public generally, to experience the joy of fishing and, in this case, the art of fly-fishing.

The Association has its own qualified coaches and support volunteers to offer guidance and tuition and we welcome inquiries from anyone, school, groups, organisations, etc., who would like to visit Penderyn and try their hand at fly-fishing.

The health and well-being benefits of angling as an outdoor sport/recreation are well documented and to undertake this project, with assistance from several funding bodies, (see Penderyn Improvements), we have upgraded our facilities, providing access for the disabled, we have also added a Wheely-boat following some more fundraising and support from The Wheelyboat Trust, 2018 saw the aquisition of a Coulam Wheelyboat.

The Wheelyboat is designed to accomodate anglers with disabilities and is wheelchair compatible as well as being extremely stable which enables wheelchair anglers to experience fly fishing from a boat.
